la vie quotidienne

i've been listening to the zombies a lot lately, and i have to say they're kind of blowing me away. the whole pastoral thing really gets to me...it's an english phenomenon i think. like ok, yeah, pet sounds is pretty cool and everything, but something about it pales in the face of something like odessey and oracle for me. in any case, starting with that album as a base, i've mined some of their more obscure back catalog (the inevidable purchase of their box-set zombie heaven will come soon i'm sure) and i really like the idea of a band that incorporates classical elements..not just say, using a cello in a song, (ie pet sounds) but like really going all out baroque.

take this song for example, which is based on bach's "well tempered clavier." check out those reverb-y vocal harmonies on the chorus! it's perfect. so if there's anyone that wants to start a classical rock (not to be confused with classic rock) band, please, let's get going.
